Fran Hoey Biography

Fran Hoey became fascinated with the financial industry while in still high school.  He would spend time after school with his father at Merrill Lynch.  Barely old enough, he was able to get a research role within the company, to alert brokers of current economic events that could impact the industry. When it was time for college, Fran asked Wynn Smith, a major shareholder of the firm, how to plan for a successful career at Merrill Lynch.  Mr. Smith advised him that History would be the best area to study in order to get a broad based education that would force him to form his own opinions and sharpen his research skills.

Fran attended LaSalle University on a full athletic scholarship, where he majored in History.  To gain some broad business experience and build his resume, he got into international trading of hard commodities such as fertilizer.  After a few years in international trading, he returned to Merrill Lynch in the Bala Cynwyd working for the branch manager. After two successful years, he was approached by the Exton office to join forces with one of their biggest producers, his father, Fred Hoey.

Fran worked for Merrill Lynch for over 12 years, became a Vice President, received the Presidential Award in 1999 and reached the exclusive Chairman’s Club in 2007.  However, because of increasing concerned over corporate influence at major broker dealers, he decided to leave Merrill Lynch and start his own investment advisory firm.  He moved a select group of clients to Hoey Investments RIA with assets held at Charles Schwab.

He believes the RIA model is the best way to build the client’s long term wealth, to mitigate risk in the most efficient manner while giving customized financial advice based on the client’s needs and net worth.

Fran currently resides in the West Chester area with his wife and three boys.
